JOHN P. MURRAY - back to lawyers page
John was born in Sarnia, Ontario and raised in both Sarnia and Waterloo. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree (Psychology) from the University of Western Ontario in 1996 and his Juris Doctor degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, graduating Cum Laude in 1999. John successfully completed the Michigan State Bar Exam in July, 1999 and completed the Bar Admission Course in London, Ontario, winning the Law Society's Harrison Pensa Prize. John was called to the Bar of Ontario in February, 2002.
John is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Waterloo Law Association, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and the Kitchener Grand River Rotary Club (past director).
Areas of practice include real estate law (including commercial and residential leases, residential and commercial purchase and sale transactions, mortgages, powers of sale, tenancy issues); corporate law (including share and asset purchases); labour and employment law (including wrongful dismissal actions and employment contracts); estate planning (including Wills, powers of attorney, court applications to appoint guardians of property and persons and estate administration matters); civil litigation (Small Claims Court, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal).
John enjoys sports of all kind with his favorites being hockey and golf. John has played hockey for over 25 years and at all levels. He is an avid outdoorsman and angler and also enjoys spending time with his wife Andrea and their twin girls born August, 2003.
