Phil attended the University of Toronto, receiving his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science in 1982. Phil then attended the University of Windsor and received his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1985. Phil was called to the bar in 1987 and is a former prosecutor for the Ministry of the Attorney General.
The focus of Phil's practice is insurance defence work, including property and casualty, municipal and corporate liability, professional negligence, and director's and officer's liability and accident and disability claims. Phil has appeared at all levels of courts in Ontario as well as various boards and tribunals.
Phil is an accredited mediator and arbitrator. He frequently provides mediation, arbitration and neutral case evaluations to his various clients where alternative dispute resolution methods are more appropriate than litigation. He also has extensive experience in corporate and commercial matters and family law disputes.
Phil is a member of the Advocates Society, The ADR Institute of Ontario, the Waterloo Law and Ontario Bar Associations, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Kitchener-Waterloo Insurance Adjusters' Association, the Elmira Golf Club and the Royal Canadian Yacht Club.
